I Thought Kindness Had Cost Me Everything—Then I Opened the Drawer
Thicker than I remembered it being before.
Inside rested every dollar I had saved, and considerably more added to it.
Tucked inside sat a folded note, written carefully, as though every word carried weight and meaning:
„You were the only person who cared about us.
Please accept this as my thanks.
I hope it helps you get your car sooner than planned.
My child and I will be safe now, finally.
Forever grateful,
Lynn.”
I laughed and cried simultaneously in that moment.
I must have moved the envelope myself during the chaos and simply forgotten doing so. Lynn hadn’t stolen anything from me, she had added generously to what I already had.
I still don’t know where she lives now.
I know this much, though:
Trusting my instinct, and trusting her completely, turned out to be the right decision.
Somewhere out there, a woman and her child remain safe today because one person chose not to look away when it mattered most.
