Charles and Camilla cherish their time with their grandchildren, making every effort to spend as much time with them as possible.
However, as the years go by, Camilla has expressed sadness over the passing of a special era with her grandchildren. Recently, she opened up about her relationship with them, revealing a heartbreaking realization.
Camilla was once among the most criticized members of the Royal Family due to her past affair with Charles while he was still married to Princess Diana. Over time, however, public perception shifted, and she gained significant admiration from both the public and royal experts alike.
For both Camilla and Charles, prioritizing time with their family extends beyond their own children—it includes their beloved grandchildren as well.
Queen Camilla has two children from her previous marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles: her son, Tom Parker Bowles, and her daughter, Laura Lopes.
Now, as a devoted grandmother, she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren. Tom has two teenage children, Lola and Freddy, while Laura is a mother to three teenagers—Eliza, along with twin boys, Louis and Gus.
Queen Camilla – Her Bond with Grandchildren
One of Camilla’s greatest joys is staying connected with her grandchildren through text messages. In a recent interview with Vogue, she shared a heartfelt realization about watching them grow up.
“You know, the wonderful thing about being a grandmother is that you get to spoil them from time to time, giving them little things their parents wouldn’t normally allow,” she shared.
“The girls are starting to show an interest in fashion and makeup, and, you know, it’s a little daunting when you see them experimenting—pierced ears, bold makeup, and brightly colored hair. It’s a new phase, but it’s all part of growing up.”
While Camilla has five biological grandchildren, she has also embraced the role of “step-grandmother” to King Charles’ grandchildren. This includes Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, she seldom gets to see the latter.
Queen Camilla’s Connection with George, Charlotte & Louis
Camilla understands that she is not George, Charlotte, or Louis’ biological grandmother, but ultimately, this does not matter. She has formed a warm and supportive relationship with Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children over time.
Despite being their step-grandmother, Prince William is keen on ensuring that his children recognize Camilla’s presence in their lives.
However, Camilla has been mindful not to overstep or become too involved in George, Charlotte, and Louis’ upbringing.
“Becoming a stepmother to two grown boys was never going to be easy”
Camilla’s transition into the Royal Family was challenging. When she officially joined, Prince William and Prince Harry were still grieving the loss of their mother, Princess Diana, following the tragic car accident in Paris. At the time, Camilla was seen as their father’s “mistress,” making her role as their stepmother complicated.
Although Camilla is not their biological grandmother, she does not hesitate to correct them when necessary. During Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, TV cameras captured a moment where Prince George and Princess Charlotte appeared to be in disagreement, with Camilla standing behind them, seemingly unimpressed by their behavior.
Today, Camilla takes pride in being a grandmother to five, with five more “bonus” grandchildren through her marriage to King Charles. Whether biological or not, what truly matters is the time spent together and the bonds they have built over the years—a philosophy Camilla has carried throughout her life.
